A new chapter in Scandinavian aviation is about to take off. From 1 October 2026, SAS will reconnect Northern Europe with India, launching a year-round nonstop service between Copenhagen and Mumbai - its first direct route to the country in 17 years.
Operating five times a week aboard an Airbus A330, the new service offers a streamlined connection between Scandinavia and Mumbai, India’s financial capital and one of Asia’s most dynamic commercial hubs. For business travellers, it creates a direct link between two influential economic regions; for leisure travellers, it opens an altogether easier route into one of the world’s most compelling destinations.
The service also strengthens Copenhagen Airport’s position as a major international gateway, with passengers able to connect onwards across SAS’s wider network. Key destinations including New York, Boston and Toronto are accessible through Copenhagen, making the new Mumbai route particularly relevant to travellers looking for seamless long-haul connections.
For SAS, the return to India is also a significant moment in the airline’s history. As it celebrates its 80th anniversary, the carrier is marking the occasion by restoring a connection that has been absent for nearly two decades.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome passengers on board our new nonstop service to Mumbai,” says Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS. “This strategic route represents an extraordinary milestone for SAS, opening effortless doors between Scandinavia and one of the world’s most dynamic economic hubs.”
The route will operate as SK969 from Copenhagen, departing at 16:10 and arriving in Mumbai at 04:30 the following morning. The return, SK970, leaves Mumbai at 06:30 and reaches Copenhagen at 12:15.
With 266 seats aboard the Airbus A330, the service is now open for bookings, offering a new direct connection between two very different corners of the world — and a welcome return for SAS to the Indian market.
